Happily, the best measure to prevent this is wearing your silver jewellery often. ![]() Silver | Silver tarnishes quite quickly when it comes into contact with oxygen or sulphur. With exposure to these chemicals, the two noticeable differences are a loss of lustre and a change in colour. Do not expose your gemstones to alcohol and chemical-based substances such as hand sanitiser, perfume and hairspray as they may change the surface of the delicate gems. A gentle wipe down of your stones after wear can also help to avoid any buildup of oils or other substances. All gemstones should be cleaned with a soft cloth or even your finger. Natural Gemstones | Please note that certain stones are more delicate than others. You can also use a polishing kit for extra shine and to remove any tarnish. Remove the piece from soapy water, rinse it and dry thoroughly with a soft polishing cloth. Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the jewellery. Put the jewellery into the bowl and let sit for a few minutes.
